Do you have everything you're supposed to want, but still feel like something is missing? You're not broken. You've just been looking in the wrong place.
I'm Russell Davis, therapist and executive coach. In Clarity Within, I help ambitious people reconnect with their innate confidence, find genuine clarity and purpose, and build a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.
I know this territory firsthand. After years of striving, and an eight-year fertility journey that brought me to a breaking point, I discovered that clarity and confidence aren't things you earn. They already live within you.
Each episode explores honest conversations and real insights that create lasting change. Not tools or techniques. Just a deeper understanding of who you are and what you're truly capable of.
The search is over. It starts within.

What Stress Is Really Telling You
We used to think illness was caused by bad smells in the air. Doctors who questioned that were dismissed, even discredited. Then germ theory changed everything.
I think something similar is happening with stress.
Most of us believe, without really questioning it, that stress comes from situations: the demanding boss, the difficult relationship, the impossible workload. If that's true, the only way to feel better is to change the circumstances. And when you can't, you feel trapped.
In this episode, I want to offer a different way of seeing it. One that doesn't remove the difficulty but completely changes your relationship to it.
Nothing outside you can make you feel anything. Your experience is created from the inside out, always. When you really begin to see that, the stress doesn't necessarily disappear, but your relationship to it does. And that's where the possibility lives.

How to Get Unstuck (And It's Not More Self Discipline!)
Tuesday Jun 23, 2026
Tuesday Jun 23, 2026
For a long time, I didn't have language for what was missing in my life. I had everything I thought I needed. Good friends, a loving relationship, a career that looked successful from the outside. And yet something felt hollow.
Looking back, I'd describe what I lacked as self-leadership. Not the kind that means working harder or being more disciplined. The inner kind.
In this episode, I share six qualities I've come to see as foundational, not as a checklist to work through, but as signposts to what might be quietly missing. We cover emotional awareness, structure, the shift from victim to creator, the power of choice, purpose, and knowing how to ask for support.
This episode is for anyone who feels like they're going through the motions. You're not broken. You may just need to come home to yourself.

How to Move Forward Without Conquering Fear
Tuesday Jun 16, 2026
Tuesday Jun 16, 2026
Most of us spend enormous energy trying to get rid of fear. I know I did.
I remember being coached in a training room years ago and telling my coach what I wanted more than anything was to stop feeling afraid. He looked at me and said: I can't do that. What you need is courage.
At the time I was disappointed. Looking back, it was one of the most useful things anyone has ever said to me.
In this episode, I share what fear actually is, not what we think it is. Fear isn't caused by the situation. It's the misuse of imagination. It's a story we're telling ourselves about what might happen, filtered through old experiences and beliefs about who we are.
When you begin to see that, something shifts. You don't have to wait until the fear goes away to take the next step. You just need fifteen seconds of courage.

Admitting You're Wrong Is an Act of Love
Tuesday Jun 09, 2026
Tuesday Jun 09, 2026
Something I've noticed in myself and in the people I work with is that the fear of being wrong runs surprisingly deep.
It makes sense when you trace it back. Many of us grew up in environments where getting something wrong meant being judged, told off, or found lacking. So we learned to protect ourselves by needing to be right. And then we carried that habit into our adult lives, our relationships, our careers.
In this episode, I explore what that fear is really about and what it costs us. And I share a moment with my wife that stopped me in my tracks.
There's a line that has always stayed with me from the early days of my marriage: you can be right, or you can be in a relationship. This episode is about that.

Why Ambitious People Drift Through Life
Tuesday Jun 02, 2026
Tuesday Jun 02, 2026
Have you ever looked back and realised you didn't choose aspects of your life so much as drift into it?
That was me. Seventeen years in a successful career, moving up, being chosen, being wanted. And drifting. Not because I was lazy or lost, but because I was living the life I thought I should be living rather than one my heart actually wanted.
In this episode, I explore the idea Napoleon Hill called drifting and why it affects so many ambitious, capable people who look fine on the outside. We talk about the three things that help you move from unconscious living to something more deliberate. They are, knowing what you genuinely want, believing you can have it, and taking the small actions that inch you forward.
This isn't about five-year plans or goal-setting frameworks. It's about reconnecting to what your heart is actually asking for.

How to Find Your Purpose
Tuesday May 26, 2026
Tuesday May 26, 2026
If you feel like there is something missing, like you are drifting rather than truly living, this episode is for you.
I remember at a low point in my life, feeling lost, Googling "how to find your purpose." I did not find the answer there. A mentor of mine used to open talks on purpose by telling a room of two hundred people: you cannot find your purpose by coming to talks like this. Purpose is not something outside you that you need to find. It is something you realise from the inside.
There is a story I love of Nasruddin, the wise fool of Sufi tales, racing frantically through the streets of Baghdad on his donkey, looking for his donkey. When we search outside ourselves for purpose, for a feeling of meaning, for the life we are meant to live, we are doing exactly that. Looking in the wrong place.
The work is not to search harder. Your purpose is innate. The more you live from your true self, the more it gets revealed, one small breadcrumb at a time. I trained as a therapist purely for fun, with no intention of making it my career. Halfway through the course, I realised: I think this is what I am meant to be doing.
You do not need to burn your life down to find your purpose. You just need to come back home to yourself.

Why Positive Thinking Doesn't Work
Monday May 18, 2026
Monday May 18, 2026
What if positive thinking is actually making things worse?
I know that can sound strange. We are told endlessly that the key to a better life is to think more positively, to catch negative thoughts and replace them, to fill our days with affirmations.
But in my experience, both personally and with clients, this approach tends to create more struggle, not less. When you affirm something you do not yet believe, part of you pushes back. And fighting thought with thought just gives you a busier mind.
There is a story I love about a man on a riverbank pulling drowning people from the water. Others join in. Then one of them disappears upstream. The rest think he has abandoned them. But he went upstream to find out why people were falling in the first place. Managing the content of your thinking is working too far downstream. Going upstream means understanding the nature of thought itself.
We are not the content of our thoughts. We are the ability to have thoughts. We are the sky, not the weather. And when we really see that, the mind settles by itself. Clarity returns. A genuine sense of okayness and possibility opens up, one that does not depend on thinking the right thoughts.
If you are tired of fighting your own mind and want something more sustainable than positive thinking, this episode will offer you a completely different and deeply liberating perspective.

The Real Reason Change Doesn't Stick
Monday May 11, 2026
Monday May 11, 2026
Most of us know what we want, or at least we think we do. The question to ask is, are we actually choosing it?
There is a world of difference between wanting something and committing to it.
In this episode, I explore why so many ambitious people stay stuck in wanting, even when the desire is real, and the direction is clear. Even when they know their current path doesn't feel like their purpose.
When I left my corporate career and started building my therapy and coaching practice from scratch, I told myself I could not afford to save any money or give any away. Both turned out to be stories. The moment I chose to do both, even in the smallest possible way, something shifted. That is what choosing does. It changes your sense of being. And your sense of being is what drives your results.
It is fear that keeps us in the land of "one day," fear of failure, of making the wrong call, of not being enough. But what if failure is simply learning? What if you are already enough and have nothing to prove?
This episode is an invitation to stop waiting and start choosing the life that is already calling to you.

How to Get Clarity With a Busy Mind
Tuesday May 05, 2026
Tuesday May 05, 2026
Do you find yourself stuck in your head, turning a decision over and over but getting no closer to knowing what to do?
I remember sitting having a set of options open to my after my A-levels. Different universities, different sponsored placements, all of them good. And I couldn't decide. I was in tears, terrified of making the wrong choice, convinced that if I just thought harder, I would find the answer.
We live in a culture that says analytical thinking is key. But trying to think your way to clarity ties you in knots.
As Jamie Smart puts it:
You - Contaminated Thinking = Clarity.
And that contaminated thinking is usually fear. Fear of getting it wrong, fear of regret, fear of being judged. The more we try to think through that fear, the busier our minds get.
Clarity is not something we find. It comes to us. Like a 3D image from the 90's Magic Eye patterns, it only appears when you stop forcing it and let your gaze soften. The more you trust that your innate wisdom is there and that you will be okay whatever happens, the more naturally and quickly clarity arrives.
If you overthink decisions or struggle to trust your own instincts, this episode will shift how you relate to your own thinking.

Stop Trying to Fix Yourself
Tuesday Apr 28, 2026
Tuesday Apr 28, 2026
In this episode, I explore why most self-improvement approaches fall short, not because people aren't trying hard enough, but because they're working too far downstream.
I use the image of people falling into a river. Most self-help is focused on pulling people out of the water. But what if you went further upstream to understand why they're falling in? When we're caught in a thought-created reality, fighting that thinking with more thinking is like trying to rescue a burnt biscuit. The best baker in the world cannot save it. You start again.
We don't need fixing. We have innate well-being already within us. Our minds are self-correcting systems. Like a snow globe, they settle when we stop shaking them. The more we understand how our experience is actually created, the less we try to wrestle with it, and the more naturally clarity, confidence, and peace return.
If you've been working hard on yourself and feel like something still isn't clicking, this might be the most useful episode you hear all year.
